The Bald Eagle

The national bird of the United States and a once endangered species, the bald eagle has an undeniable presence to itself. This adult bald eagle is believed to reside within Letchworth State Park in Western New York right next door to my family’s farm.

When I received the call that there was an eagle in the area I loaded up and drove out to the farm. When I arrived I could only see vultures so I carefully got out of my car, laid down in the grass and waited. Fun fact, I laid out on the side of the road for well over 30 minutes as traffic passed by assuming I was photographing vultures.

I knew the eagle was in the field directly off to my right but I didn’t want to scare it away so eventually I lifted my camera up over my head, pointed it towards the field and snapped one photo in an attempt to locate where the bird was.

This is the only photo I took that day, as soon as I pressed my shutter the eagle flew off and did not return. When I sat at my desk I was anticipating a poor quality image but to my surprise I found something much better.
